Why Americans Vote the way they do.

Why Americans Vote the way they do. The American population defiantly made a huge statement in this year's presidential elections. There are many reasons why the race was so close between Senator John Kerry and President George W. Bush. Both candidates appealed to many different groups of people. One great example of why President Bush turned out to be so successful in this year's election can be read in the November 3rd edition of The New York Times. The article "Living Poor, Voting Rich" discusses how the Republican Party has created and maintained a great connection with the American Heartland. They have grabbed the middle-class on issues that rely on strong efficacy, not actual issues that will benefit them. The article discusses how the middle-class is voting for tax-breaks for the rich blindly. The article stated, "They (the Democrats) come across in much of America as arrogant and out of touch the moment the discussion shifts to values."English: Bush in Concord, New Hampshire signing to...This is why Bush has wo n the election, strong personal values. The American population loves this about him, it can be seen as his greatest strength by many, but to many that oppose him see it extremely different, he is forcing his religious beliefs on them. John Kerry clearly stood against this. People saw John Kerry as a flip-flopper because he stated that he has strong beliefs against moral issues, such as abortion, but he believes that being President of the United States involves not letting your personal beliefs effect decisions. Most people did not see it that way. America wants a father figure, a truly stern and "morally sound" leader. To just over half of the population Bush is that leader. The Wilson book has a large section discussing Presidential Character. "Every President brings a distinct personality to the White House." The book discusses several different...

The Five People You Meet in Heaven coursework evaluation sample Essay Example for Free

The Five People You Meet in Heaven coursework evaluation sample Essay 1. Person 1 The Blue Man Evaluate your drama showing the connection between the Blue Man and Eddie. Our drama worked well because our group had the advantage of having three people in the group, which meant we could create a drama different from anybody elses and develop the side range of idea we all had. However, working within a group of three when only two characters were needed, also meant it was harder to convey the emotion between The Blue Man and Eddie. The acting was good but we could have improved as some members of the group were not as focused as others. This could have been because we had to work hard to change and re-evaluate the main ideas of the drama as we had to work effectively in a trio. Next time, we should stay in role and motivate each other better. 2. Person 2 The Captain Evaluate the Forum theatre showing Eddies forgiveness as he understands why the Captain shot him in the leg. We used forum theatre to portray thus. It worked because the actors who volunteered were very enthusiastic and that flowed through into their acting. The audience contributed by giving advice to the actors, this was effective because we ended up with a different range of idea that contrasted well with each other. The moment was a bit disorganised, because we were improvising and some actors slipped out of role whilst in the spotlight. The acting was touch and go; strong when the ideas were flowing but weak when the ideas were running out of steam. To improve this next time we could pre plan where we want to go with the ideas. However, do it lightly as we would want the forum theatre acting to still possesses spontaneity. 3. Person 3 Ruby (and Eddies Father) Evaluate how you communicated one of the below. The damage of neglect / The damage of violence / The damage of silence What techniques did you use? We used two tableauxs Explain one key moment: As tableaux one was a light hearted and joyful picture of father and son, whilst tableaux two was a picture showing the strained relationship between the two; the transition between the two still images was very important. How effective was the piece and why? The piece was effective because the juxtaposition between the two tableaux was evident. What would you do differently in an ideal world? In an ideal world, I would have a background of a sunny walking trail (as this is suitable to the scene in which we set out still image), then in tableaux two the background would turn into a stormy grey. Also, the costume would be matching at first and very proper but in the second still image, we could consider having the son dressed in a more sloppy style that hints his rebellion towards his father. 4. Person 4 Marguerite explain how you chose to portray the concept of Love. What techniques did you use? A prominent technique used in our drama was mime; we developed the idea of using mime so the two people in love mined the words whilst the outsider of the group spoke out aloud. We also used projection to project an image of clouds onto the wall behind us, we wanted to create a clam effect at the beginning of the piece. Explain one key moment: A key moment was when person 1 and person 2 (the two in love) kissed; this showed the progression of their relationship. However person 3 is continually being ignored and can only watch whilst person 1 and person 2 fall in love. How effective was the piece and why? It was effective, because even though there was limited speech we conveyed the different emotions between the friends effectively. What would you do differently in an ideal world? In an ideal world, I would have more actors performing in the last scene as extras. When the friends finally meet after years of growing apart, it would look good if we had a crowd of bustling people that the main trio had to push past in order to escape an awkward meeting. However, we would need to think of ideas of how we could set apart the friends from the extras; we could consider using different clothing, spotlights or something else. Also, I would have the projection of the cloud turn into a completely different image at each stage of the friends life. For example; when they are children-clouds hovering above an open field, when they are teenagers-a graffiti brick wall, when they are young adults-a university campus, and when they are adults-an upmarket cafe or restaurant of some sort. 5. Person 5 Tala Evaluate the most moving part of Talas story for you explain WHY it was effective and How.

Bush and Hitler - Parallel Lives :: Politics Political

Bush and Hitler - Parallel Lives The 70th anniversary wasn't noticed in the United States, and was barely reported in the corporate media. But the Germans remembered well that fateful day seventy years ago - February 27, 1933. They commemorated the anniversary by joining in demonstrations for peace that mobilized citizens all across the world. It started when the government, in the midst of a worldwide economic crisis, received reports of an imminent terrorist attack. A foreign ideologue had launched feeble attacks on a few famous buildings, but the media largely ignored his relatively small efforts. The intelligence services knew, however, that the odds were he would eventually succeed. (Historians are still arguing whether or not rogue elements in the intelligence service helped the terrorist; the most recent research implies they did not.) But the warnings of investigators were ignored at the highest levels, in part because the government was distracted; the man who claimed to be the nation's leader had not been elected by a majority vote and the majority of citizens claimed he had no right to the powers he coveted. He was a simpleton, some said, a cartoon character of a man who saw things in black-and-white terms and didn't have the intellect to understand the subtleties of running a nation in a complex and internationalist world. His coarse use of language - reflecting his political roots in a southernmost state - and his simplistic and often-inflammatory nationalistic rhetoric offended the aristocrats, foreign leaders, and the well-educated elite in the government and media. And, as a young man, he'd joined a secret society with an occult-sounding name and bizarre initiation rituals that involved skulls and human bones. Nonetheless, he knew the terrorist was going to strike (although he didn't know where or when), and he had already considered his response. When an aide brought him word that the nation's most prestigious building was ablaze, he verified it was the terrorist who had struck and then rushed to the scene and called a press conference. "You are now witnessing the beginning of a great epoch in history," he proclaimed, standing in front of the burned-out building, surrounded by national media. "This fire," he said, his voice trembling with emotion, "is the beginning." He used the occasion - "a sign from God," he called it - to declare an all-out war on terrorism and its ideological sponsors, a people, he said, who traced their origins to the Middle East and found motivation for their evil deeds in their religion.

Space

Do aliens really exist? It could be true or false. Everybody knows that space is a big universe, full with many unknown cre ¤ture and objects that people have never seen before. In order to gain more knowledge about space, scientists spend a lot of money on research. The money we spend on space exploration should be giving people many beneficial factors in return, but it only gives people problems to solve. Searching for unrealistic things can be a real waste of time. The government should concentrate on things that are more important and less dangerous than space xploration.Space exploration is not important and dangerous because the humans can damages the original form of space, giving people new diseases, and wasting important money. After people change the order of space, it can never be undone again. The natural form of the space will be gone forever. That is why exploring space is not a good decision. â€Å"Weather mistreatment or suffer ever demand we may place on it† (Source E). Humans try to expand their presence into space like on Earth. The human presence caused extinction, unusual weather and soil erosion. These kind of results may happen in space too if human presence were to expand on space. But if the people reverent the way space is and leave the planets alone where we found them then nothing will worsen. The scientists that want to know more about space may be willing to do any necessary steps to get the information they wanted. New, living organism is found on earth. The astronauts that went to space, may have brought new diseases to Earth. These infectious germs may cause millions of death. â€Å"The hazard that some infectious extraterrestrial germ might be riding with hem† (Source F).Space is filled with living organism that people never knew it ever existed. â€Å"Because extraterrestrial life may exist, planetary exploration could bring trouble if people are not careful enough† (Source F). Even though the scientists had sterilized the hardware that used in spaced and the samples that astronauts got from there, everybody should still be cautious about it. Everyone should pay attention on how the taxpayers' money been spend. â€Å"All others, $0. 06†¦.. including†¦.. space and technology' (Source F) A part of the taxpayers oney was spent on space exploration, which is a total waste of money. The money that had been waste on space exploration could be spent on things that could benefit the people and earth. For example, the money could be spending on Medicare programs. Many people need Medicare to cover their hospital fee. Since many people in the world need medicine to cure their illness. Another choice could be, investing the money into the NIH (National Institutes of Health). â€Å"NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the cause, treatments, and even cures for common and are disease† (Source D) Health is more important than space. Don't tell me about all the spin-off Technology†¦.. Leave the money here on Earth. † (Source H). The government has more important things to focus on, other than space exploration. Investing into space exploration is not a good choice. Since space is involved with problems that we can never solve or maybe it will causes a huge ruckus space. Space is full of disastrous things and surprise that you can never imagine that it ever exists. If alien really do exist it is not as important/interesting as what happening on Earth.

Perspectives: US and Iraq Essay

Globalization has paved the way for technology to thrive. Economic growth is rooted in a country’s ability to expand on technologies that would productively utilize its resources. As a catalyst for capitalism, technology has often been used as a benchmark for nations to determine their status of development. Among the developed countries, the United States of America (USA) is one of the leading industrial powers of the modern world. Its contributions to the scientific community have improved the lives of millions of people due to their open economy and democratic identity. However, for most Arab countries like Iraq, technological advancement is a struggle since the interplay of religion and culture in its political history has slowed down its economic progress. This paper aims to offer an insight into the glaring differences of technological advancement from the perspective of a developed and developing country. The USA is flowing with scientific innovations that cater to the different needs and wants of each individual. This is due to the fact that its educational system fosters creativity and encourages competition as scientific projects and programs are supported by both the public and the private sectors. Since it is a country that flourishes in an open economy, the government is able to allocate the country’s resources to fund projects/programs that it deems necessary to maintain the status quo. With regard to Iraq, its violent history under a tyrannical ruler has hampered its progress in the realm of technology. While it is one of the oil producing countries, advances made towards scientific innovations were slim to none. Its previous government under the late Saddam Hussein had control over most of the telecommunication systems as well as transportation and electricity so citizens were deprived of such amenities. The education system is also inadequate as the country struggles to deal with the on-going war on terror after the fall of Hussein’s regime. At present, the Iraqi government is renovating its local and foreign policies to incorporate the expansion of Science and Technology into their development plan. The government is currently in an agreement with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on a development strategy that would support scientific innovations for institutions and businesses. In addition, an education plan was also created in the hopes of expanding the scope of science-driven educational institutions within the community as well as strengthening the workforce. The plan also supports student exchange programs with Universities from top schools in developed countries. The government has also opened its doors to foreign support in advancing knowledge in the field of Information Technology, Medical and Electricity. Conclusion: In all aspects of life, the use of technology is inevitable. Regardless of whether a country is considered developed or developing, technology will always be the driving force that propels a country to succeed in their aspirations for economic progress.

5 Different Ways to Say To Leave in French

5 Different Ways to Say To Leave in French There are five different French verbs that mean to leave. They are  partir, sen aller, sortir, quitter,  and laisser. These words all have different meanings, so for a non-native speaker, it can be tricky to understand what verb to use in which context.   French Verb Partir Partir means to leave in a general sense. It is the opposite of arriver, which means to arrive.  Partir is an  intransitive verb, meaning it cannot be followed by a direct object; however, it may be followed by a preposition with an indefinite object, which in this case, will normally be the destination or point of departure. Here are some examples using conjugations of the verb  partir: Nous partons jeudi. Were leaving on Thursday.Ils partent de Paris. Theyre leaving (from) Paris.Je suis parti pour le Quà ©bec. I left for Quà ©bec.In addition, partir is a euphemism for death:Mon mari est parti. My husband passed away. French Verb Sen Aller Sen aller is more or less interchangeable with partir  but it has a slightly informal nuance of one  going away/off, such as leaving a job after retiring. It can also mean to retire or to die. Examples using conjugations of sen aller  are below: Ils sen vont Paris.  Theyre going away to ParisJe men vais, salut!  Im off, bye!Va ten!  Go away!  Mon pà ¨re vient de sen aller. My father just retired (or died, depending on the context of the sentence). French Verb Sortir Sortir means to go out, to get out of something, or to get something out. It is the opposite of entrer (to enter) and can be transitive or intransitive. A few examples of the use of  sortir  include: Je sors ce soir.  Im going out tonight.Tu dois sortir de leau.  You have to get out of the water.Nous allons sortir en bicyclette.  Were going out for a bike ride.Il doit sortir la voiture du garage.  He has to get the car out of the garage. French Verb Quitter Quitter means to leave someone or something. It is a transitive verb, meaning that it must be followed by a direct object. It often indicates a prolonged separation, which is illustrated in these examples: Ils quittent la France.  Theyre leaving France.Il quitte sa femme.  Hes leaving his wife. The only exception to the direct object rule is when youre talking on the phone, in which case you might say Ne quittez pas which translates to Dont hang up. French Verb Laisser Laisser means to leave something in the sense of not taking it with/for oneself. This word is also a transitive verb, so similar to with  quitter, you must have a direct object to complete its use. Jai laissà © mon sac chez Luc.  I left my bag at Lucs house.Laissez-moi du gà ¢teau!  Leave me some cake! (Leave some cake for me!) Laisser can also mean to leave someone alone. For example, if someone were to say Laissez-moi tranquille!   it would translate to Leave me alone! or Let me be!

8 Signs Someone Is Lying To You

8 Signs Someone Is Lying To You It is possible to tell when someone is lying to you. Though, hopefully, it could just be nervousness, there are a few red flags that you could keep an eye out for. Any significant combination of the  following tells just might show you the truth about the person in front of you. 1. Voice ChangeIf their voice or general demeanor changes dramatically, this is definitely a sign of discomfort- and quite possibly a lie.2. Psychological DistanceAre they going out of their way to avoid saying â€Å"I† or â€Å"me†? It could be that, consciously or not, they’re trying to put distance between themselves and the lie they’re telling.3. Too Many Right AnswersThis may sound counterintuitive, but if someone has an answer for absolutely everything, you might be a bit suspicious. Most people need to pause to think about their answer to unexpected questions- at least every once in a while. If someone is parroting answers that seem rehearsed and polished and super quick o ff the cuff? That could be an indication of a lie.4. â€Å"I Swear†If the person is proclaiming his or her honestly continuously (â€Å"to tell the truth†¦,† â€Å"to be perfectly honest†¦,† etc.) then they doth protest too much. Actually honest people simply tell the truth without having to broadcast that they’re doing so.5. Fidgeting/FussingIf the person changes their head position rapidly, or can’t stay still, or starts breathing differently, these are all great physical tells that you might be getting fibbed at- especially if they cover their mouth or shuffle their feet or instinctively cover sensitive body parts. Watch the body language for all these clues.6. Difficulty SpeakingIf you watch police confession videos, it sometimes seems like the perp has a hard time getting his or her words out. This is due to an autonomic nervous system reaction that dries the mouth in times of stress. Lip biting and lip pursing aren’t good sig ns either.7. No BlinkingNormal people blink every few seconds. People who are lying might be going overboard to prove they’re maintaining solid eye contact with you by staring a little too strong or too much.8. PerspirationLiterally, you are making this person sweat. If they’re stewing this badly, then chances are they aren’t telling you the truth.

Planning Document Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Planning Document - Research Paper Example The plans established during project planning stage will aid the manager to save time, resources, quality, challenges, transformations and other issues. Additionally, it helps the manager to manage team, members of staff and outside stakeholders to ensure project timely project deliverance and within schedule. Introduction Experts agree that project-planning stage is mainly the most problematic stage for human resource managers because they need to produce skilled staff, adequate resources and tools required to complete the project. They may also require organizing and communicating the plan, project scope, procurement activities and work breakdown structures for the success of the program. This paper explains my project charter for benefit and compensation package revamping, communication plan, the scope of the project and the work breakdown structure for my compensation and benefit package as a new appointed human resource manager in charge of small teams. Discussion Project Charte r for Project Benefit and Compensation Package Revamping As a new human resource head appointee and now responsible for a small team management, I have a critical role ahead. The next project based on this new task is to revamp the benefit and employee compensation package that workers are receiving at the organization. Compensation is the role of human resource management, which handles all forms of rewards that people receive for their better performance – such as nonfinancial and economic benefits. My financial benefits plan will entail direct rewards like salary, time off pays, wages, any form of bonus and increases on merit basis as well as other plans for profit sharing. Indirect rewards like workforce benefits, (Armstrong & Cummins, 2011). Additionally, nonfinancial benefits involve anything in workstation, which promotes workforce’s self-esteem and self-respect sense by others. Therefore, as a new human resource manager, I will design packages for compensation and benefits for the entire workforce and perspective new recruits. I will design and implement the team’s expectations to prevent miscommunication concerning employees’ requirements. The project charter will include a policy concerning the number of work hours, overtime, time compensation and time off payments (such as Holidays, emergency leaves and personal holidays). In addition, t he least or base grades of salary will be based on position or title of the job, job description, job qualification and educational qualification will be established to determined workforce salary. The World Is More Depressed Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

The World Is More Depressed - Essay Example The major argument of the article is that the process of urbanization and the advancement in technology are major causes of increased depression globally. This is because, with urbanization, comes fractured families, increased use of drugs and alcohol, as well as poverty, all of which are risk factors for depression (Luhrmann, n.p.). On the other hand, technological advancement has increased access to information about other people especially through social media, causing people to compare their lives with those of others, and thus becoming depressed. The author has a bias for India as the country she has visited frequently and understands its situation more than elsewhere globally. Thus she uses it as the predominant example of increased depression, while the situation could be even worse elsewhere. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the article? The strength of the article is that it has applied the backing of various scientific studies from different parts of the world to ba ck the argument. The weakness is that the author has less exposure to the conditions of the rest of the world in relation to depression, thus paints India as the most affected country. The first-hand experience and scientific data of depression from the rest of the world, other than India, Japan, Britain, and the USA, is missing. The article is effective since it has been able to deliver the message in a more comprehensive and scientifically backed manner, through the application of data from different scientific studies.
